Dursley News - December 2007 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
During December, work continued on the Rednock school site although it was held up for several days after the felling of trees had taken place without the proper authorisation. The old music block finally met its fate, being quickly reduced to rubble by heavy machinery and excavations have also begun on the playing field on which the new building will go up. All around the site, significant earth moving has taken place with much of the soil removed going on to the grass area near the remains of the music block where an all-weather pitch will be constructed. Elsewhere the walls are going up on the building site where the old Coop bakery once stood in May Lane and the first industrial buildings are nearly complete on the Littlecombe site. On December 8th, during a very wet Dursley Christmas shopping day, Stefan Nawrot, a member of the town's Polish community came into the Heritage Centre in full costume and played several tunes on his banjo. Stefan has been in the town since the 1960s. |
