Dursley News - September 2006 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The most notable event this month was the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the opening of the Dursley branch railway line. Two traction engines, each pulling a trailer full of ex-railwaymen and enthusiasts, made the trip from Cam & Dursley station through Draycott, Chapel Street and Everlands in Cam all the way to the rear entrance of the Lister site. It was then the intention to travel through it to the site of Dursley station at the bottom of Long Street but unfortunately very wet weather the day before made the ground impassible. Instead the engines travelled along Hopton Road back to the Railway Inn in Cam where an exhibition of photographs and memorabilia was held. All-in all an enjoyable day out. Elsewhere in the town further progress continues to be made on levelling the Lister site in preparation for the new industrial units and housing. On the old Bymacks site the houses continue to rise and a start was made on yet another housing development alongside Yellow Hundred. Silver Street was closed for a whole day on September 10th for resurfacing causing widespread traffic diversions and one of Dursley's nightclubs, the "Warehouse", reopened on September 23rd after being closed for the previous year. |
