Dursley News - February 2010

Snow hit the town in anger again during mid March and Dursley saw some very localised and heavy snow falls although much of the surrounding area missed it altogether or had only a light covering. Although there was some interruption, progress on the new Sainsbury's supermarket is continuing at a very fast pace and the store appearance changes daily. Many of the changes are obvious from Castle Street as paving around the store entrance is laid and the old historical plaques recovered from the demolished Victoria (Council) School have been installed in the new red brick wall, a welcome addition to the otherwise brand new building.

    Sainsbury's entrance
Looking across from the gap between Barclay's Bank and Bennett Jones the estate agent, the dominant and central appearance of the new Sainsbury's supermarket is obvious. This is positioned where the cows would once have made their way into Castle Farm.
