Street Scenes from the Woodmancote Area of Dursley

Woodmancote was once a distinct hamlet in its own right but since the start of the 20th century has been steadily engulfed by the encroachment of Dursley. Woodmancote starts at the junction with Uley Road and Bull Pitch and makes its way eastwards towards Tetbury, becoming Whiteway and then climbing the steep 1 in 7 hill out of town. If one was to travel in this direction, then the junctions with Fort Lane (right), the more recent Cambridge Avenue (left) , Nunnery Lane (right) and Byron Road (left) would be passed. A short distance after Fort Lane are the buildings and graveyard of St. Mark's Church, funded by Henry Vizard for the poorer townsfolk who couldn't afford seats in the Parish Church of St. James.

Some of the establishments that have existed in this area of town at one time or another include those listed below. (Click on links for company memorabilia).
